Scholarships

Here are some of the websites to visit to seek out financial support for your plans to attend post-secondary. There are many different types of scholarships out there and because each student is unique, it is important to search for the awards for which you may qualify. You can often find scholarships through your post-secondary institution of choice by going onto the school’s website and searching for scholarships. Post-secondary schools often have a “scholarship application form” that students can fill in and then the school will then search out awards students qualify for on their behalf.

Here is more important information to note:

  • Student Loans: Go into SIAMS. You may have already created an account, but if not, just create a new account or contact them if you can’t access your account.

  • Rutherford Scholarship: Apply online after your final grade 12 marks are submitted:

  • Wize Scholarship - $1000 Award for High School Students 

    • Deadline: End of June annually, (check the website for the exact date).

  • MC College - $1000 Excellence In Cosmetology Scholarship

    • The MC College $1000 Excellence In Cosmetology Scholarship can be awarded to one student from each High School Cosmetology program per year. If you are planning on continuing in this field of study, please speak to your Cosmetology teacher to be considered as a nominee for this award.

Links to the local scholarship applications and information can be found in the upper left hand section of this web page, (with the exception of the Rocky View Teacher's Scholarship directly below).

Please read each application carefully for deadlines and specific submission instructions.

Criteria for application:

  • Be graduating this year from a Rocky View Schools high school or an Airdrie, Cochrane or Chestermere Calgary Catholic School Division high school.
  • Be entering your first year of a practical program in health care (certificate, diploma or degree), directly related to patient care (e.g. nursing, rehabilitation therapy assistant, health care aide, etc.). Students pursing after degrees, (already have an undergraduate degree), are not eligible.
  • Attending one of the following Calgary post-secondary institutions: Bow Valley College, Mount Royal University, SAIT or the University of Calgary.
  • Demonstrate financial need.

There are one or more awards valued at $2,000, applied directly to tuition. The deadline to apply is May 30th at midnight.

As of mid-October - Applications are now being taken for this Scholarship being presented through airdrielife magazine.

Graduating students may apply if they:

-have shown academic achievement (through grade point average, test scores, etc.)

- have experience in community involvement or extra-curricular involvement

- have demonstrated leadership skills

- and made a successful application into a Journalism or Communications pos-secondary program.

Grade 12 students who wish to be considered to be nominated for the Premier’s Citizenship Award in Alberta are encouraged to submit an application to the Guidance Counsellor (mhardy@rockyview.ab.ca), no later than final Friday in May.Your application must include the following:

  • A letter from you, the applicant, outlining how you feel you meet the criteria for the award (details at the link above)
  • Two letters of reference (no longer than one page each)
    • A reference from someone who has known you for at least one year either through school or community or volunteer activities, and
    • A reference from someone who knows you well enough to support and/or elaborate on your activities and initiatives as outlined in the criteria for the award.

Once the applications are received, Administration and Guidance will put forward one nominee on behalf of W.G. Murdoch School for this Award by the deadline.

This award is available to any graduating Rocky View Schools students or any graduating child of a Rocky View Teacher.

Deadline for applications is June 1st of a student's graduating year.

Certificate of Achievement, or High School Diploma – 80% average of 5 grade 12 courses which must include ELA 30-1 or 30-2 (No Work Exp or Sp Projects)

Applications must include:

  • Name of the post-secondary institution and the program to which you have been accepted
  • Why you wish to be considered for the Elks/Murdoch Scholarship
  • A letter outlining a bit about yourself
  • A summary of your activities/involvements both in and out of school (school, community, church, sports, volunteer and paid experience); include as much as you can.
  • A copy of your letter of admission

Deadline: June 25th (Graduation Year)Winners will be notified by the end of November with the award presentation to be made at the December meeting of the Crossfield Elks Club.

Awards paid upon receipt of post secondary marks.  Any post-secondary student commencing or currently enrolled in accredited institution.  Preference given to those who demonstrate community involvement.

Students who have been in the W.G. Murdoch Band program for a minimum of 5 years may apply for this award.

Kiwanis Airdrie Foothills will award the $1,000 David Green Scholarship to a deserving Grade 12 student in Airdrie, Crossfield or Beiseker who is entering a college, university or trade school program dedicated to children's services. Consideration will be given to academic achievement, financial need and a history of volunteering focused on children. To apply, students can submit their application form along with a 500-word essay about why they want to work with children to the Kiwanis Club by July 15.
