Alberta High School Diploma Graduation Requirements

Grad Requirements

The requirements indicated in this chart are the minimum requirements for a student to attain an Alberta High School Diploma. The requirements for entry into post-secondary institutions and workplaces may require additional and/or specific courses.

Graduation Guidelines

In order to be placed on the W.G. Murdoch High School graduation list, you must be a student in good standing and meet the conditions listed below:

1. You are responsible to check the accuracy of your high school record of courses, marks and credits. Any questions regarding your high school record should be discussed with the counselor.

2. You must ensure that you are registered in the necessary credits and courses to fulfill high school diploma requirements. Grade 12 students are expected to register in a minimum of 15 credits each semester unless other arrangements are made.

3. Students must be on track for successful completion of all courses by the first reporting period of the second semester required for graduation. (Start of April) This mark must be maintained for the remainder of the semester. Students not meeting this condition will meet with the Principal to determine eligibility for participation in the graduation program. (March 30 – Identify students at risk, April – Midterm report - evaluate eligibility)

4. All school fees and grad fees should be paid in full by May 14, 2020 in order to participate fully in all graduation events. We encourage parents to establish a regular monthly payment plan for school fees. If fee payment poses a concern, please call the office for advice and support.

5. A fee of $100.00 must be paid to cover the cost of the graduation ceremony. This is due by Dec 11, 2020. If students are only attending the ceremony, this will be their only grad fee. Students attending the ceremony and the banquet will have additional grad fees that will be calculated at the beginning of May.

6. Section 31 of the Education Act defines the guidelines for student behavior at school. Repeated violations of these standards could jeopardize graduation status for students.

7. Students are expected to maintain acceptable attendance levels (85%+). Attendance is reviewed regularly and if acceptable levels are not met, participation in the graduation ceremony may be at risk. Parents will be informed of attendance concerns.

8. It should be noted that students can be pulled from the grad list at any point in time, at the discretion of administration.

Picture packages are made available to individual graduates, with the cost varying according to the package contents. The photography company makes the cost information available at the time. The sign up times will be online with Life Touch and families will receive an email with information on how to book their sitting.

Grad Organizing Committees

Our class of 2021 has hired an organizer to co-ordinate this years decorating and banquet planning. As such, the only committee necessary is for fundraising.

Fundraising Committee: Parent

• Presents all fundraising options to committee.

• Contact person and organizer for all fundraising.

• Record all proceeds from grad.

• Any fundraising that requires a permit under the gaming act requires involvement by a society.
